An updated Burials Database as of September 10, 2024 has been substituted for the previous version. An Excel spreadsheet for all the records is in the Gallery (if you click on the Gallery Link and get a {Misdirected Request} message click on the back button on the menu bar and click on the Gallery Link again) to download and a PDF version is also available in the Gallery for viewing - A great amount of editing has been done to the database since the update in February, 2022. Many of the records only showed the source as a page number for the obituary in the Sudbury Star publications. During the summer of 2023 the obituaries were found on the microfilms of the Sudbury Star, which are located at the Sudbury Public Library on McKenzie Street. The additional information from these obituaries has been added to the database. Also, another column (Death Location) has been added to the database and as this information is found, it is added to the database.
Thanks to Kari Squarzolo who has photographed many of the gravemarkers and when a grave marker has been sourced, it is marked with Kari S. to acknowledge her contribution.
During the last few months information from current obituaries and information from the 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950 death certificates has also been added. The Society has over 9,300 entries consisting of digital and paper obituaries, stories and death certificates of Finns downloaded from the Ontario Archives for the years 1904 to 1950. The booklet Canadan Suomalaisten Sotilaiden Muistoalbumi Vuonna 1946 (Sudbury, Ontario 1946, 69 p.) (was published by the Sudbury, Ontario newspaper Vapaus. The booklet lists and shows by province photos of Canadian Finnish soldiers who served during WW II.
The captions, written in Finnish, under each individual mentions hometown, sometimes the birth year and place of birth, occupation, rank, arenas of service and where they were discharged. The captions were translated into English by Martin Neva in 2000 and submitted to the website of the Genealogical Society of Finland at that time.

If there is no district, province or country after the name of the town, it is in Ontario since the province was left off all the locations in Ontario. Also, since the book was published in Sudbury, Ontario many of the locations are local or are now ghost towns and would not show up on a current map. In these cases Sud Dist was inserted after the location to indicate Sudbury District. Some of the cells are empty because there was no information for that individual.
